Freelander 1 Getting less common

I'm after a good connection TD4 Sport hardback manual in silver for the wife.
The prices are definitely creeping up, which makes finding something suitable very difficult, and it appears its only going to get harder in future. :(

These are both 5 door the sports done 69000 no headliner sag either which is rare in its self
 
I'm afraid that there's one less. My wife's one was hit by a minicab a few weeks ago and the airbags deployed.
I could have gotten this back on the road for a couple of hundred pounds in parts, however the insurance company absolutely insisted that it's a Cat B unless I get brand new airbags fitted by an approved dealer.
This is a complete and utter misuse of the insurance category system.
Unfortunately it seems that a relatively minor knock on the front towing eye will put enough of a shock into the airbag ECU that the airbags deploy, and if at that point if you even inform the insurance company that this happened, let alone make a claim, then your Freelander is toast.

The front towing eye is bolted straight to the front chassis rail, so will transfer any impact loadings straight to the body, hence the airbag deployment, even though the body at that point is very sturdy indeed. :(

We already got a very nice 2005. The 2002 was drivable (without airbags) but the insurance company not only refused to let me repair it, but when they found out that we were still driving it informed us that the insurance was with immediate effect revoked leaving SWMBO with no car.
Even the insurance company person on the phone couldn't quite believe what their own people did.
On the upside, the new one is nicer and SWMBO is very happy with it.
 
I think that the £3k that Andy said isn't far off.
Our 2005 TD4 HSE was advertised for (I think) £2800 but I actually drove it away for £2400, however, it needed at least one injector, the propshaft bearings vibrate badly above 50mph and the clutch is both heavy and can be provoked into slipping if you really abuse it.
The sunroof has a slipping cog in the mech somewhere as well but at least the panel hasn't rusted out like the old one.
Basically it needed another £1k spent on it to make it good.
On the other hand the body is extremely good, including underneath with a very nice interior and a pretty good headliner.
It's also completely dry inside.
The AC works.
I think that the IRD is okay, and anyway I can pull the good one off of the 2002.

With time and money I will fix all the mechanical stuff. Rust on the other hand is a real problem which I know I would probably never solve.

Mine is actually a NZ new car, but I wouldn't be surprised if most of the Freelanders over here are Jap imports - as are most cars on the road actually. My daughter's Mazda 2/Demio is a Jap import as have been all our previous 3 cars here including the D1V8. Its becoming more common that new means new here, but until recently, new was a 5/6 year old Jap import.

What is surprising about that car is that it has the heated front screen. Even though there's lots of Jap Freelanders here, the heated front screen is rare.
