Ive been trying to figure out a vibration under the car that shakes the gearstick at speed , gearbox seems ok and selects fine , part on photo is very loose and there is a lot of play , is this the bushings , if so are they readily ava for a 2002 3 door 1.8l freelander and are they easy to fit , the other end nearest to the geaebox seems quite secure.

You can use a Rover gear linkage repair kit to restore the linkage. Some parts of the kit work, but some parts don't. It's a bit of a faff, but better than replacing the assembly with new components.

There shouldn't be any vibration it high speed though. Are all the tyres correct? All the same make, model and size with the least worn on the rear?

Yeah all good , ill keep looking , its not too bad , im assuming it does need to move a bit , perhaps im just getting picky now .

It shouldn't vibrate, which is why I suggested tyres. Normally odd tyres load up the propshafts at speed which causes vibration. If you're tyres are all as per the handbook, then look at the VCU damper and bearings. Also it's worth checking the lower engine tie bar bush as they go really soft, particularly on the 1.8 where the PS pipes can leak fluid on to the bush.
