Gearbox oil filter....important?

Morning all,
Got up this morning and decided to do a quick oil change on my lt77 gearbox. When cleaning the little filter my dog decided he wanted to help....so its not exactly any good now! Phoned around the local parts desks, nobody has sold one since about 2003! And can't get one till Tuesday! I sort of need my land rover on Monday, so is leaving the filter out an option?

yes as long as has clean oil ,it protects pump as gears are running in **** oil if thats whats in already,a few days with clean oil wont hurt,
