Hi

I'm in the process of changing at least one detent spring, so have looked at the relevant posts + photos.

Have removed all 6 cover bolts / nuts, including the awkward horizontal ones at the back. The cover can now be raised.

However, the back of the cover is too tall for removal - it catches on some bodywork. Only needs to move up another 1 cm or so.

Any ideas, before I start cutting the bodywork a bit? If I have to do this, I will be careful as there are a number of wires behind it.

Thanks in advance

This is going to sound like a dumb question, but why are you taking the cover off to change the detent springs? The come out the sides/top with a suitable hook or bit of bent wire.

If you want to get the cover off, though, I might think about removing the transmission mounts (support the box on a jack to do it) and then lower the trans whatever amount is needed. Odds are the mounts are perished and need changing anyway. :)

You have a point, MrChurchill. The springs can be changed as you describe.

But I have taken so much stuff off around the gearbox for other reasons, I'd like to have a check, as much as is possible without dismantling or removing the gearbox.

Have decided not to remove the cover.

However, if anyone knows the easiest way in the event that this job HAS to be done, it might be worth posting in case anyone else needs the info.
