Gear selector fault (automatic)

I have a 14 plate freelander 2 (automatic) its stuck in park, the gear selector has gone completely loose and won’t engage, has anyone got any ideas what it could be?

Sounds like the selector has seperated from the lever. Look at the top of the gearbox while someone moves the gear lever. The metal rod should be connected to a lever on top of the auto. If its not, thats yer problem. Lever should move in time with the gear selector.

As above and check where it is in relation to the N/P and triangle mark.
