Sunny day so did long overdue top up of the gear oils. Surpising results:
This is after 6 months and around 1500 miles, perhaps a bit more.
RH and LH swivels took about 1/2 cup each.
Front axle took about a cupful
Rear axle took next to nothing
Gearbox took about 1/2 cup.
Transfer box took about 2 pints!!
Overdrive took nothing - still slightly high from last check.

So I'll be looking to find where that transfer box oil is going, my suspicion is on the rear output shaft seal. did the front last year.

Is it coming out of the overdrive breather?
Drop your overdrive level then see if it rises.
Over drive dipstick should be screwed all the way in for level check.

Having had a look at the oils I confident the O/D is staying sealed, I'll be driving later today and I have a feeling I will find oil on the transmission brake that has come past the shaft seal, I'm also suspicsious of the transfer case bottom plate gasket.

I made a fairly thick rubber gasket to go under that rectangular plate on the top of the transfer box. That way I can remove it by undoing the four bolts to check the level easily.

Mine does drip a bit round the bottom plate. There is an upgraded one made from cast aluminium available. I would think that this would seal better than the tin one they are fitted with from the factory.

I remember reading on here that I would probably be pointless re-doing the gasket as it would most likely start to leak again soon.

No big drips underneath after 50 or so miles but there is a smell of hot gear oil so I'll bet its leaking down the output shaft and getting spun off the transmission brake. I'll do the seal in the summer, will need new hand brake shoes as they are bound to be soaked in oil.

Does your transfer box not have the oil catcher and the slot for it to drip out before going into the brake drum.

Yes, it them spins all round the underside but it also seems to get windblown back inside the drum. The rear main bearing leaks profusly - a Perkins fault as its a rope seal and flinger - and this blows back under the box and also gets into the tranny brake. The annoying thing is the crank seal doesn't leak when the engine is running but only when it stops and so its not a problem on most Perkins engines that are worked hard but I'm parked 95% of the time when it forms a skin under the sump which then migrates rearward when I drive. Its on te to-do list but well down as I can live with it for now.
