Are there any manufacturers who make them?
Why don't they?

:rolly:

My chassis is still ok. :5bcheers2:I'm not looking to buy one. I was just wondering why they don't make them for D1.
If they did - I would buy it.

I would guess they dont make them because the body goes long before the chassis does, so there wont be a great deal of demand for them. maybe if enough reach classic status!

I know Richards Chassis are doing Disco 2 chassis ...

Your best bet is to hunt round for a 'parts wagon' -

with a crappy body but a half decent chassis - clean and repair it - then get it dipped ...

Long way round, but you'll know it's OK

I know a fella locally who has one but i think hes keeping it for a project (seen it in his yard the other day) if I see him I will ask him.

EDIT: Doh just re read the OP your not actually after one!

Richards Chassis will make you up a brand new galv chassis for a D1 for £1600 plus the VAT.
This was a verbal quote I got from the guy that runs the place during a convo we had at the Donnington 4x4 show this year.

Richards will probably divert you to Designa who will make you one, long lead time though.
Marslands don't, and don't intend to, according to the email I received recently.

I don't see the point in a galv chassis on a d1 cos the chassis's are generally good. Its the crap they put on the chassis thats the problem..

lol yeah prob cheaper to just waxoyle every year and galv the bits that do go - inner wings, sills, boot floor etc.

The early d1 chassis were ok, my 94 chassis is miles better than the one on the 98 disco I've got. Marsland do make a d1 galv chassis, as I enquired earlier this year. They would even do a discount for bulk buy.

id imagine the sheer size plus the size of the door/window openings dipping a disco boddy would warp like hell! so your gaps would be all over the shot, a mini is much smaller and the shell itself pretty solid as they only have subframes not a complete chasis that supplys the support that a landy requires :)

i should said as remanufactor the disco shell in steel but keep the chassie in galv.
