I recently bought my series 3 diesel which already has a galvanised chassis. It's generally a tidy truck but could probably do with new door frames / tops and also the driver footwell is bodged with fibreglass or something similar. She's recently had a blow over of paint but on the whole, the remainder of the bulkhead appears solid. I think it may possibly have had new corners & pillars at some point in the past.
As just have a new drivers footwell & floor panel welded in, should I just go for a new galvanised bulkhead and have done with it? I wouldn't fit it myself so it could be costly. I'm reckoning on about £1100 for the galvanised bulkhead (ashcroft?) and perhaps a further £900 to fit - say £2k including vat all in? Do my estimations sound about right. I'm not sure how long a specialist would ntake to spray / fit a new bulkhead.
Also, can you buy new door bottoms? - i'm talking about the frame as well as outer skins plus new tops as well. I may just replace the door tops and am keen on the ready glazed ones - are these any good? I assume they're ready to paint then fit?
I'm looking to use the old girl through the winter but then get some restoration done in the spring /summer.
Keen to get any thoughts / advice on this as a newby at this early stage.
