Hi,

I've just picked up an '84 S3 LWB SW, and after loosing about £75 of fuel on the way back from Preston I figured the tank needed changing.

I've ordered one from Paddocks which was a BRITPART one and I think they've mis-sized it. I offer it up to the space, and the rear cross member holes are out by about 20 mm - meaning the chassis cross member won't sit between the two sides of the tank - and line up with the holes.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what's the best solution?

Or (as is most likely) have I done something stupid ?!!

Wow Britpart item doesn't fit, never hear that one... ( sarcasm)
Anyway birtpart are renound for **** quality, a parts catalouge will help if you haven't got one yet, this will ensure the part no is correct.
What was up with the tank, (original) ? If its a small hole I'd suggest a repair would be cheaper:)

Welcome to the world of Britpart. In future you are best advised to reject anything in a blue box bearing the ****part name. Not much of there stuff fits without work and if it does it does not last and you will be doing the job again sooner than you thought. I managed to codge one of there tanks on to my 88 because it was given to me by someone who gave up trying.

Many reports of the SWB tank not fitting too - filler neck too far away from the edge of the tank. Need to 'adjust' the hole in the mid bulkhead. I wished someone made decent aluminium replacements. Britpart seemed to be the only option when I replaced mine about 16 months ago

Thanks all for the responses - I guess the question now is what alternatives are there other than a genuine Land Rover replacement? I had heard that Britpart were of dubious quality, but I didn't realise at the time of ordering (Paddocks) that Britpart was what I was going to get!!

The tank itself is leaking in quite a few areas, its pretty extensively rusted through, so a replacement is the only option!

Are there any recommended places to get good quality SIII spares from, where the prices are reasonable but not crap quality?

Ta.

i think there's only lr or britpart. if so, then i'd see if i could make the britpart fit or look for a semi decent one on ebay.

you can also buy kits to reline the inside, but if the metal is that bad then i'm not sure i would want to.
