Hi everyone

Have just got the FL back from having it's HG done, and having now just spent a good few quid he's gonna be staying for a bit to earns his keep!

Story was that the fuel pump went, as it died I checked the oil etc and the signs the HG was on it's way so it went in for a week and had HG, cam belt, fuel and water pumps and new thermo done.:eek:

Now I need the help of the wealth of knowledge that is on this forum. :confused:

Firstly the Hippo Specs::cool:
1.8 petrol 3dr 52plate - (yeah, I know! I can hear the sucking through the teeth from you all from here!):rolleyes:

1) I really can't understand why a car that has such problems keeping it's cool doesn't have a perm fan on! I'm going to put an ign live feed to it so it runs all the time. But are there any other mods that help-the car at least- keep it's cool?

2) I also have a couple of lights on my dash ever since ( well 2 weeks ) after I bought it - Traction control and Hill decent control. Both yellow. I think they are tied together with something to do with the brake control on the HDC thingy. As I have replaced all the brakes a while back is this just a case of resetting something???

which leads me to...

3) After picking myself up from the floor when I asked my local LR dealer for a price just to look at it I am on a search for the software, leads and know how for reading codes and resetting things on the FL. For myself it's the dash lights. For the missus it's the fact that i hardly ever hit the fob twice to unlock the passenger door! ( i believe this is a country thing).

Any way... If anyone can help with the above I'd be most grateful, especially regarding the ECU thingy, and of course in lz forum spirit I'll make sure it's gathered together to help others in return. :D

1) it's not a fan problem so wiring the fan permenant live wont help, especially while driving as the cool air being pushed through the rad is more than enough to keep it cool, fan is only used for air con and cooling when stationary, its controlled by the ECU via the temp sensor and the fans have their own controller which is fitted to the fan cowling, this controls the fan speed by pulse width modulation (PWM).

HGF is mainly caused by the gasket design, basically its ****, there's a new, modified gasket out now and is a permenant fix, you should have had the late type fitted.

2) HDC and TC lights on indicate a fault in the ABS system, could be something as simple as throttle cable adjustment but usually its a brake light switch fault, you'll need T4 to diagnose

3) T4 software and all the bits to go with it are rare to find on the public market, most ECU readers that are widely available only do engine management and don't work on all cars, happy hunting!!!!!

Single point entry is standard on all freelanders regardless of market, I dont think you can turn it off (never tried!). As far as i'm aware, freelander is the only one that doesn't have configurable options.
