Fuel pump help !!

I have just taken out my fuel filter (which has been a much easier job than i Thought it would be, as none of the bolts had seized) however I seem to have a thin wire with a spade clip on the end just floating about afterwards, can someone tell me where this goes?

Seem to recall this being asked before, and it doesn't go anywhere!
Think Hippo knows the answer, hopefully he'll pick up on this later.

There is an earthing strap part way down the filter - there is a hole in the plastic and that wire attaches to that.

Mine had rusted away, so I made a new one out of a piece of metal I had lying around. It is just an interference fit between the plastic and the filter.
