few months ago i had a new cam belt fitted then i put on a all sport full with intercooler and turned the pump up as per instructions, but it seems i need to advance the pump a bit. now ive read this can be done throuth the inspection hole on the front of the cover but is it nesserary to have the engine at tdc and locked in place. would just using the pin on the pump pully and the car in gear be enough as it reads as there is only so much adjustment on the pully. ta

When i did mine i just lined up the slot in the flywheel in the centre of the inspection hole, then removed the little round cover on the timing chest, fitted the high tech drill bit, loosened the three bolts and used an adjustable to turn the crank bolt to where i wanted it, simple enough, and also simple to put it back to std as well.

Either way will give the same result
Problem with trying to turn the pump bolt is lack of space to turn and hold it then lock up the three smaller bolts, the way i did it no need to hold anything
The choice is yours!

done, def sounds more like a desiel. only really smoked when you gave it a bit of welly so ill see over the next few days. didnt relise the pin hole was what created the limit on the movement, well i didnt have a pin but you can use one of the bolts off of the cover plate. worked just as well
