Fuel line/sender (Prob stupid question)

Went out to my 110 defender last night, and there was a bit of diesel on the drive, had a look underneath and there was a small drip from the side of the tank, looked on here and sussed out that this was where the fuel line connects to the sender (think thats right). So i thinks it might just need nipping up, as soon as I went anywhere near it with a spanner the connector sheared off. After much swearing I managed to remove the connector from the end of the fuel line. What I want to know is, will I be alright replacing the olive and cleaning up the pipe before putting it back together, or is there something else I need to know? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've only had the Landy a week and have a LOT to learn.

new olive and a clean up should be fine. use two spanners next time!! one to hold steady, the other to undo.

are you talking on top of the tank? i doubt that would leak, seems to normally be the seam or just holes in the tank from rust or the rubber filler hose has split.

if you have a full tank sometimes the sealing ring and associated bits leak. I know mine does.

Cheers, although it sheared off as I was putting the first spanner on it, looks like it had been over tightened in the past (I think). Was probably already split, and my touch of a baby elephant was the final straw.

No mate, on the side of the tank, looking from the rear, it's on the passanger side, about half way up the tank, there's a metal pipe coming out of the tank, which connects to a plastic fuel pipe. Hope that makes sense? Just measured the pipe and it's 8mm OD ish, if that helps? I'm off to try and source and olive then have a crack at sorting it.
