Reading says quarter tank, float all the way down, this is on a new unit, is there a system to adjusting these? Ive figured out how to adjust it but cant seem to get it right.

Never done it before but
I would try it out of tank first with it connected mocked up on a level surface to mimic it being in the tank , then move through the full range and see how gauge responds , are connections clean
Dip the tank and record fuel depth and also distance [Y] from top tank to fuel level
On mock up bend arm to get the correct reading on gauge when float is Ymm below top sender unit
My series has the red low level light too , I get a wrong reading if these are swapped

The tank has a metal plate surrounding the pickup pipe filter, I wonder if the sweep arm is catching on it, I adjust it out of the tank to read empty correctly and have the light come on just above the red then fit it and drive a while only to have it read half a tank with light on, could be a dirty electrical connection so I will start there, and with an empty tank too!

I think its clearing it, I drained the tank and the guage is reading empty, it should be easier to adjust it now, I need empty on the dash to be a tiny bit over float empty or/and the warning lamp to come on just into the red.

Right then, so adjusted it dry, warning light coning on at just into the red, put in 40 quids worth of diesel and the warning light stayed on until half a tank! Im thinking about chucking this set up and using something else. I know this will involve a new tank but If the only things available are none working pattern parts I have no real choice, any suggestions?

Shouldn’t need a new tank unless it leaks
Did you get the sender when connected out of tank to move the gauge from empty to full and what vertical distance it needs to move to do this

Thats the thing, it works fine outside the tank, once in and with fuel in it its all over the place. The distance is governed , the sweep arm across the coil can be adjusted, the reference point is the warning lamp when the needle is just on the Red, it was fouling on the baffle in the tank and I ended up having to bend the baffle! Both Bearmach parts, but when in the tank its still all over the place. I might try bending the contacts on the sweep arm to give a tighter contact and see if that helps.

So is the only difference the earth, earthed to tank when screwed in and not earthed when outside?
Even if it’s not set properly it should give a constant steady reading but you say it’s all, over the pace
