I can only get 60 or so litres in. According to the manual I should have a 95 litre tank. Even allowing for a large 'reserve' I should be seeing another 20 litres or so going in. It's never really bothered me, I've still got 400 miles of range (I'm routinely getting a measured 30mpg out of the old girl), but is it normal?

Assuming I run the tank dry one day (with a full jerry can in the boot of course) to test the range, is the fuel purge procedure the old 5 full presses of the pedal before starting?

A 400 mile range is great, a 600 mile range would be better - I hate fuel stops!

Syphoning the fuel out might be more better ;)
I reckon I've got about a hundred miles in the tank once the light comes on, give or take a hundred miles, depending on how long I can stay on a roundabout without falling asleep. No big deal either way.

Dont run it out of fuel, you could pull any crap through to the engine.
Iam sure your tank holds its 95 litres must be a faulty sender

next time it reaches that point pull rear carpet forward remove access panel and sender unit you can easily see and measure what actual fuel is in, it may be a bent float arm or poor sender unit

After I did my fuel pipes and replaced the, empty, tank, I put in 20 litres from a Jerry can, it only just put the fuel light out, it came on again after a few miles driving.

I think the book says only 80 litres of the fuel capacity is available anyway.
