fuel gauge problem

i have a series 2a which was origanly a FFR so 24v but at some point in its life it has been changed to 12v, great much easyer to get parts for but ever since i have owned it the fuel gauge has always read full no matter how much fuel is in the tank, (there is only one tank left so the switch over has been removed as well) the only reson i can think this is happening would be because the sender is still a 24v item but i hve been unable to find a replacment. dose anyone have any other ideas as to why this is happening?

The sender on the standard 2A is a resistive type.
I suspect that you will need to fit a 12V sender and fuel gauge.

I would have thought that a 24v system would have read 0 to 1/2 full or 1/2 to Full if converted to 12V (depending on the logic)

its almost like it alowing the power to go straight to earth, i have also had the change every other sender as ty didnd work

Try connecting a 12v supply directly across a disconnected fuel guage and see what you get (should read 1/2 full).
Is probley a bit late now but i understand that the usual method for converting a 24v system to 12v is to fit a DC/DC converter to the ignition system and swap out the plugs , coil and condensor for 12V types.
This way you can leave all the other eletrics running 24V and have the expensive bit running 12v.

has the wiring from the switch over been connected up properly? cause mine used to read each tank independently when you switched over,me dads old un,used to read the two tanks combined.they were both 24v ffr

if i conect straight to earth ite gauge reads full which as far as i know it correct as it ready resistance, also the change over is not conected as one tank is missing

sounds like a short to ground somewhere after the gauge.
