1998 l series diesel, now i keep seeing on threads fuel filter under wheel arch, mine is under bonnet or is there 2, same with pump, mine is in top of tank i think,

Earlier Freelanders had 2 low pressure pumps - one in the tank, and the other under the bonnet with the filter beside it.

Very sensible and not too difficult to access. :)

Facelift Freelanders have only one pump which alongwith the filter is located under the rear off-side wheel-arch.

Some sadist design 'engineer' who has probably never touched a screwdriver or spanner in his life will no doubt be thinking he did a good job of re-locating it.

Why it was moved is beyond me. Takes an age to change it and can't be done easily at the roadside if you get a blocked filter due to suspect fuel in some far-off country where you get flies and wasps as well as grit supplied through a fuel-station pump without a filter.

End of rant - next rant later - only one per day - hopefully.

Singvogel.

Edit: In certain countries (some of which have recently even joined the EU) I fill up using a filter funnel with a fine mesh in the neck - you'd be amazed at some of the cr*p I catch that way. It's slow - but better than an unscheduled roadside stop.
