Up until now i have not had any way of locking the fuel cap making it very easy for any one inclined to do so to steal my precious fuel. I have bought one of the locking hasps and plan on fitting it over the weekend. Where as it should be a very simple job on reading around it looks as if I will need to remove the fuel tank to access the nuts securing it in place.

Is there any way of fitting it without dropping the tank?

Also, as I have seen both on other people land rovers should it be mounted above of below the filler cap?

I have one that I am getting close to fitting, just waiting for a fine day, it looks to me if you fit it at the top of the filler then there is no need to remove anything apart from the cover inside the cab, mine is an 88"

How is the panel in the cab attached? I know the one you are talking about and have already had a look to see if it can be removed. but there are no obvious screws/bolts holding it in place. It just looks like a smooth seam so I had assumed it was spot welded.

Well the panel had been riveted in and then painted over. So I drilled them out and removed the panel only to find that the filler neck was was held in place with self tapping screws. but The hasp is fitted now even if it took much longer than needed.

Sorry for late reply, meant to say, my cover is held in place by stainless self tappers, so was the screws that hold the hasp just self tappers, if that's the case then the cover wouldn't need to be removed

Yes the four screws holing the filler neck in position on mine were self tappers so I could have fitted the hasp without removing the internal cover. However, having read up on other experience with fitting them I was expecting the screws to be machine screws like on my defender, in which case you would need access to the back for the nuts.

That is what I was expecting, I will have a shot at mine when I get home from work in the morning, mine does have flat head screws and was too expecting them to be screw and nut on the back, will let you know
