Fuel Consumption

Im no good at working out what my 300tdi is doing to the gallon, will some kind person please let me know what its doing to the gallon.
I put £40 Diesel in from empty, and i did 280 miles, mostly motorway.
Went from Stoke on Trent to Rhyl via Chester, these were normal roads, then i did motorway from Rhyl to Blackpool, then back to Stoke, all on £40 with 4 adults in the car. I think the fule was 96.9 at Texaco.
The fuel light cam on when i got back into Stoke

Thats not an accurate way to gauge it. Fill it up to full. Drive a few hundred miles and fill it up again. Work out how many gallons you have put in by dividing the number of litres by 4.55. Then divide the distance travelled by the number of gallons used. Chances are the figure will be somewhere between 25 and 30 MPG.
