Hello, Im new here and very interested in buying a landrover 90 hardtop :)

Whats going to be the best diesel engine for mpg and reasonable power?

What sort of figures would i be looking at mpg and bhp wise?

Thanks Tom

Because i had to choose one engine type section so...
i couldn't choose 200,300 and TD5 so i just went with 200tdi...
move it if its inappropriate

Sorry guys , i can see im going to get abit of a rinsing for being a newbie :p
I soon hope to buy myself a defender 90, but im not sure on fuel consumption etc, and this is pretty key considering fuel prices rising rapidly :(

For the section, i couldnt find a more suitable section, sorry.

Thanks anyone who has some good info on what i asked :)

Tom just how long is a piece of string ??

From 200 tdi to TDCi mpg will be about 25 - 30 more or less depending on how you drive.

Does that help ? :D

It does abit, hmm i dont think im going to get a straight answer :/

so theres not much difference between mpg in the 200tdi,300tdi and td5 models?

Tom, they have really helped havn't they - you might be better trying another sourse, which may be more useful or indeed helpful!
I have just obtained a 1959 SI thats had a 200TDI installed, I havn't actually done much with it as I have been abroad since I got it, but I was told it was managing about 28mpg. What ever it does it can't be worse than the original petrols!

Excuse me!

Is 28 mpg not between 25 - 30 mpg then?
And do you still get 28 mpg whether or not you boot it?

Okk thanks that alot more helpful some proper figures :D
Anyone got some figures on the 300tdi and td5?

My apologies for the attitude.

I can see the problem see red bit above

200 tdi, 300 tdi, TD5, and nu TDCi very similar mpg ...... Better :D

Thank you , cheeeers for that :) anyway a remap on a td5 would help mpg? or even a better tune to the 200/300tdi would help?

Even with a remapped td5 you will still only get between 25 and 30 mpg
I have a 300tdi with decat egr removed and I get between 23 and 27.5 mpg mine is also auto

My 200tdi hardtop 90 with a discovery tranfer box, rear silencer remover and 235/70 all terrain tyres will achieve 34mpg on a decent run :) Hope thats of some use!

The only way to get good mpg from a landy is to not get a landy lol Aerodynamics of a flying housebrick mean they're all gonna be about the same. I guess the more powerful the motor the less you'll thrash it so theoretically the better mpg you'll get. The fact remains that if you're after good mpg then buy something else! :D
