my becm is giving me problems can anyone tell me if i take it out and have a look inside will i need to enter a eka code or is it just plug in and go

You can open the BECM without having to enter EKA code but there is a chance that there is an anti tamper device which is basically a harmless liquid capsule that discharges to indicate to Lucas that it has been opened.
Main thing to remember is that the Mosfets and other components can easily be blown by static and therefore wearing a grounding strap is a must. Only things you may see is evidence of a blown mosfet which can be seen by evidence of burning. If you are in to working on PCB's there's no problem but getting the Mosfets now is almost impossible-not many about.
What problems do you have with the BECM??
There are people who can repair these & for info a new one which will have to be programmed on your vehicle will cost around £600-£700 (Ouch).

i have found a company who have quoted me £250 for a complete overhaul with a 2 year warranty i will let you all know if they are any good. the problems with my becm are sunroof not working rear window wiper not working and both rear doors central locking not working so i will post it to them and see.:)

That's not too bad considering they give a 2yr. warranty- plus you do not have to get the BECM reatught by either a main dealer or independent dealer as they return your original unit with all the code already loaded.
Classic fail mode of the BECM funnily enough is that the rear wiper usually gives up the ghost and other weird and wonderful things happen which can blow your mind.
Beware of buying used units from Egay or elsewhere as they will not work unless they are re programmed to suit your individual lockset code (Not EKA) and VIN. If they are locked this can cause more problems.
Look forward to receiving your feedback when you get your unit back-Good Luck;)
