Well after some self doubt I finally started on my project today. Change front diff mount and VCU. I was bit appreneive at first but once I got into it I was more confident and the studies I have done via this forum and Haynes stood me in good stead. Thanks Hippo for the diff mount pictures and advice and thanks Bell engineering for the clear instructions and telling me that the most difficult bit of the job is getting the front prop off the VCU. You were right there - three hours later and much WD40 it came off!

The prop is back together with the new VCU but not yet on the car _ the rains came and also neighbours arrived and I had to take the car off the ramps annoyingly; I marked the front and rear end of the propshaft to fit back onto the IRD and Diff but now things will be misaligned becaue I moved the car. Does it matter? How will I realign the holes (perhaps this is a dumb question.

Thanks

Gareth

Well I finally completed the job today after a wet weekend. All went according to plan and I have just been for a test drive and it is like a new car. It feels much freer somehow, especially when parking and before I had some vibarations around the 100kph mark which have completely disappeared - the VCU support bearings I guess. And with the new diff mount I can whizz round roundabouts without a thumping under floor. Thanks everyone for your help. Very rewarding , diy mechanics - you know what is done and that it is done well and you save a fortune. On now to my next projects ..... the 3 amigos and water getting in the stowage tray under the boot. I think I am going to get to know this vehicle very well over the next few months. All good fun!
