I have just got a V reg Frontera.

The engine management warning light came on 2 weeks ago, stayed on for about
an hour then went off again.

1500 miles later it has returned.

What does the engine management system do - surely it must only be checking
the ignition timing, in which case I would be able to tell if there was a
problem as it would not pull properly. However it seems to be running OK, so
I assume that it must be a fault in the light wiring.

Has anyone had a similar problem ?

Also - the alarm keeps going off for no apparent reason - is there some sort
of sensitivity level that I can adjust ?

Engine managment systems do a *lot* more than just check the timing! It
will be checking engine speed, throttle position, various temperatures,
airflow, engine load and probably more.

You need to get to a garage and have them read the fault codes from the ECU.

Good luck, in my experience VX garages are terrible!

The engine management light has gone off again.

But the low petrol light came on, even though I had a half tank of petrol -
20 miles later it went off again.

The alarm has behaved over the last couple of days.

Is it worth worrying about the engine management light if it stays off ?

If you take it to a dealer they will hook it up to their test gear, this
will tell you what what is causing the problem.

I had a similar problem and it turned out the ECU just needed resetting.

Put a paperclip in the diagnostic socket and read the error code on the
dashboard.

What's causing the problem is Vauxhall electrics.

All your plugs are turning to green copper oxide powder....
