Front spring noise.

Apologies if this has been covered before have searched for spring prob`s but my 2004 TDI Freelander has a problem with a front spring that is driving me nuts - when stationary if you turn the steering wheel left to right the offside front spring makes dull clunk sort of sound, looking at it while someone turns the steering the spring at the upper mounting appears to pause then jump for a split second hence the noise.

Anyone any idea what is causing this as I cannot see any reason for it, the spring isn`t broken or anything and the Freelander drives OK.

Dunno about freebies but some springs have an "alignment cap" no idea what their called, usually rubber/plastic as obv most spring arnt flat at the top this siolves that maybe urs is missing?
