front right wheel lock up

Hi guys was wondering if an body could possible help me out with this argent situation??

The other day while driving I went round a right hand bend and my right hand front wheel locked up as soon as I went round the bend and put me to a halting stop on the other side of the road.

When I tried to move off the wheel would not move so I put it in reverse and went back a bit then it went forward again but made a very load crunching noise . While waiting to be recovered one of my mates who is also part of this form and owns a land rover 90 came along to see what he could do to assist and it moved straight away with no problems or crunching noise. so I decide to cancel the recovery and drive back home very carefully. About 5 miles later but on a flat straight part of the road the front right wheel locked up again and took me to the other side of the road again and made the same noise as I tried to drive of again. It was dark and I did not have a torch on me so I could not expect the situation at the time.

Does anyone have any ideas what could of caused it and if so how to fix it?

I think jacking it up and checking the wheel for play then taking it off and checking the condition of the brakes would be a good starting point! Guessing a fix to a life threatening fault is not good!

How are we supposed to help if you dont even tell us wot vehicle it is?

It could be a bus, for all we know :(.

Your going to have to strip it apart, starting at the outside and working your way in until you find the problem anyway but I've never heard of anyone being able to judge the condition of bearings by looking at a wheel :confused:
 
OK guys thanks for all the messages about how to try and solve hopefully should start work on it later in the week. and will let you know on how it goes and see if we have worked out the problem.

And just to be clear its a land rover defender 90 and I do apologise for the confusion......
