Disco 2 Front Prop shaft going?

Hello,

I get a fair bit of vibration at high speeds, high eves and occasionally whilst turning. Suspect front prop, am I in the right ball park?
(Pas pump just done, although a bit of play steering components seem ok/acceptable).

There’s also a funny sound. Can’t describe it well but it sorts of sounds ‘thick’ .. it’s not a rattle more of a .. gravelly gurgle.. does that make sense? This has been for about 2 weeks now increasing slightly in intensity as time goes on.

Started the old girl up this morning and she was really vibrating almost like rocking. Very noticeable. Not a parent sound either like a cold start but continuous and it wasn’t cold. It went after a bit of driving.

Is there anyway I can diagnose/check to the front prop? I’ve heard of people checking the play, how actually do you do that? And what’s acceptable vs unacceptable?

Hi, IMO the only certain way to rule out the propshaft if there is nothing obviously visible is to lock the diff(if you can) remove it and drive it so and if it's OK that way you know it's the shaft.... as about the vibration after start up more details are needed about when, how and for exactly how long it happens, any smoke with it?

Jack up the front diff, so the wheels are off the ground, and rotate the wheels, back and forth, to see where the play is.....

I only found the play in mine byt taking it off and moving it around all over the place. Replaced it with a good one and it made no difference! It must have only been slight in my case.
The Cardon joint is the difficult one to tell unless off.

Gooday Chazb5046. I was passing parked cars and heard a "clonking" noise when touching the accelerator / brake. Got under and grabbed the front propshaft and "twisted" back and forth and there was visibly a lot of free play in the joint with the flanges stationary. You could also hear the damaged bearing caps and not far away from failing completely I would hazard a guess. Cardon joint centering bearing a pig to remove if having a go yourself. Tried two garages to see if thay could remove it for me. Both couldn't........Got an internal bearing puller off Amazon and bearing almost jumped out on it's own.
