Front hub removal

Hi All
Trying to remove the front passenger side hub and shaft. Done all the rave cd tells me to but even with copper mallet will not come apart. Is there something that I am missing? only thing that I have not removed is the abs sensor bush

hi mate i replaced the front wheel bearings on my p38 a couple of weeks ago with no problems , i removed the wheel undid the staked nut on the end of the drive shaft removed the caliper to one side , undid the 4 ( i think ) bolts which hold the hub to the carrier , once undone i gave it a shrp tap with a soft faced hammer and off it came ( the fun started when i replaced the bearings they are a bitch ) hope this helps.

Sharp tap with soft faced hammer

you mean 200 - 300 with a club hammer

done now rusted on and was the worst part of the job

only doing oil seal

put it back with a little copper grease,

next time you do the job youll love yourself for doing it

Had to replace the Oil seals on the end of the front axle on my P38 and I thought the hubs on both sides were welded on!!
I used a hefty copper faced hammer after soaking them with WD40 and after a load of sweating and cussing they came off but I had to belt hell out of them. Gave the bore a lick with a flap wheel to remove the rust and followed up with a good coating of Copper Grease before reassembly. Don't be shy with the hammer blows but be sure that you have removed all bolts etc. and keep the blows equal to avoid "Cocking" the hub.

Just finnished the job now and it was as you said a " sweating and cussing" type of job. In the end I put a jack under the hub and put the full weight of the car on to it and hit it with the big copper mallet and this gave a small crack which I soaked in wd40 whilst having some food. Cannot believe how easy a job it is compared to the same job on my classic (apart from the rust).

Just Change mine, Also replaced the ABS sensor. Problem i have now is computer is reading, ABS fault, Traction Failure. What have I done wrong? Is there a reset on the ABS system?

No need to replace the bush unless it's knackered. Is the gap between the sensor and ABS exciter ring okay?? ABS system should clear itself after the car has covered a short distance. Only thing I can think of is either the gap is too large at the sensor or there is a dodgy connection somewhere. I have changed sensors without having to reset or reprogramme the ABS.
Is the sensor sloppy in the bush ur is it a nice sliding fit??

The sensor is a good fit. I didn't want to push it in too far in case I damaged it. Not the cheapest thing to buy! Will try tapping it in further.

sounds as though your sensor isnt in far enough mate there should only be a couple of mm clearance between the sensor and the exciter ring , once you drive your car a short distance afterwards it should reset itself .
