Hi - anyone know an easy way to tell which driveshaft has gone? I an getting a shimmy like a wheel out of balance ( no it's not the wheels, VCU new etc) - I can kind of drive through it and it's ok but lately it's been getting worse and is there in light throttle - under power it shakes it's head and the is smooth. Now at speeds conducive to modern motorway travel when there are no cameras etc(!) it shakes a bit so not good news in the long run.

I am kind of thinking I might just replace both but it would be better to do one on a cost basis.

Thanks

Does the gearstick vibrate?, if it does check that your engine mounts are all ok.

Yes it moves but only very slightly - ok thanks for that I will investigate - going to have wait a couple of weeks though as I am going on hols on the bike!

Motorbikes - been on them for nearly 40 years! Did do bicycles for about 10 years quite fanatically but motorbikes are me.

Good man, I've got a kawasaki zzr600 but haven't had the time to use it lately......too much work to do around the house and I used to have to change the exhaust system back to original every time it needed an mot. Luckily the place I now use for the cars also does bikes and he couldn't care less how loud the exhaust is:D

I have a little stable of them - collected over the the last 10 yrs. Stuff around the house - no need to - I don't see it cos I am biking and in the winter it's dark - I built most of my place so its gonna hold up until I retire when I will do some stuff then - take a tip - ride now there will be plenty of time not to!

I have a 1300 Pan European, an Africa Twin which I ride mostly these days, a 1995 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport - macho italian brute of a thing - so difficult to ride except for the right road then sheer joy!, a 1972 Triumph 500 I have restored etc and a 125 scooter I used to use a lot on the back of my camper.

Sounds like a lot but they are all quite old now but I don't see the point in selling any.

I am off to Austria on the Africa Twin next week - 2 weeks with 1 in the Alps - best place ever for bikes.

Check out Hotel Enzian, Landeck, Tyrol
