Why do tractor boys cut the front bumpers off there discos?
Sold my 200 discovery 8 years ago in fairly good condition, first thing the new owner did was to remove both bumpers and fit enormous wheels and tyres. Must be good in the snow but hard work climbing in and out (unless you use a step ladder) but at least it's still running.
Must be a trend thing. I think they look stupid. Probably not good in an accident either.
The "bit" removed is a plastic valance, which after removal help's with ground clearance when green laning or off-roading. Incidentally I doubt very much that a plastic valance would help out much in a crash
the bumper mounts are still covered by??? guess what?? the bumper!
thats why they called bumper mounts... and the bit removed is called a valance!
It would probably help stop jagged metal bumper mounts ripping limbs off of someone if you hit them though.
If that's the case then why do defender's not have a valance? And surley the valence is there as a safety measure too.
And why do you need extra ground clearence.
Put ya hand bag down. You tractor boys are so sensative. If that's the case then why do defender's not have a valance?
See post 4 for answer

If you want to discuss a car at least get some fact's right about it:doh: Even so if a Disco hit's you at anything more than 25mph your probably going to suffer damage anyway, it is 2 ton's of car after all and no valance will stop that.
Oh right. You know the car im talking about do you? Only the one I saw the other day had the whole lot removed exposing jagged metal bumper mounts with a tow rope rapped round it. And although I agree that if hit by a large vehical you almost certainly get hurt, but are bumpers and valence's not put there to minimise injury?
Only I would be pretty ****ed off if one of my kids got run over by one of these cars and sustained injuries that could have been avoided if the correct oem parts had remained in place. Get your head out of your arse and look at the bigger picture you ignorant ****.
You're not the only one with kids, but I worry more about the hot hatches that get modified and are driven like they're on a Grand Prix circuit.
As I said before, with or without a bumper 2 ton's of car will HURT! I was in an accident a few years back where we were cut up on a roundabout, long story short, our Disco turned a VW Polo into a 2 seater ... and this was a 20mph crash. So I reckon if a car suffer's that much damage then in the majority of instances a person is well and truly knackered, bumper fitted or not!.
Now why don't you grab your hairdryer and fluff up some cotton wool for protection ... you know just in case a big bad Discovery drive's along!
