Hello Everyone,

Apologies if this is a repeat topic, I searched the forum and did a google search, but no such luck.

I have a 1995 M Reg 300TDI discovery, used off road. It has solid brake discs, ABS system (not working).

It needed new front discs and pads, so I got to the stage of having the new left disc on, hub back on and spinning with wheel bearing appropriately tightened. I noticed that the large shield behind the disc was rubbing a little, not that surprising for an off roader. Binned that completely. The disc is pretty close (1-2mm from the swivel assembly in some places, but no clashing and it spins freely.

so... the problem: Calliper hits disc before it fully tightens onto back of hub assembly. In theory putting washers between the calliper and hub would 'solve' this issue, but i would like to establish the reason for the clash in the first place.

Effectively the disc is about 3-4mm too far towards the centre of the car towards the swivel assembly.

This issue was not there when the worn brake disc was on the car.

Just to be sure:
The disc is properly seated and torqued up onto the outer hub.
The disc is correct type (99% sure) as its the same spec and measures up to virtually all of the solid disc specs available from euro car parts and allparts etc. (70mm width).

I have a couple of theories:
The stub axle is too short? Does anyone know if there are various stub axles? This would mean its been changed at some point in the past while a worn disc was on the car.
The wheel bearing has worn to the point of it moving the outer hub towards the centre of the car, but has not catastrophically failed or show any signs of such.

I'm sure you all will have some thoughts too, any help appreciated! I hope this makes sense. Im not sure how to get pictures on here...

would sound like the wrong disc (wrong offset) rear discs would fit front but offset would be wrong part number should be frc7329 for your needs, did disc have 4 extra 6 mm holes in between securing bolt holes

It does seem offset it towards the centre of the car somewhat, by about 4/5mm.

There were no other holes in the disc apart from the 5 mounting holes.

I got these discs from Allparts.

I have checked the part spec against Euro car parts spec and they seem to be the same disc spec.

Seems that most solid front discs readily available for the discovery are 70mm 'height' which would be the measurement that would matter most in this situation. (from the face outermost face which mates with the outer hub, to the innermost face which is mated with the inner brake pad.)

Hope that makes sense.

Ill post a video tomorrow to try and make it exceptionally clear.
