Frelander 1 bad starting and no power

Hi all, I’ve bought Frelander TD4 as a bit of a project. The bloke I bought it off said that it needs a new fuel pump as it has no power.

However, once I got it started and disconnected the mass air flow sensor, there’s plenty of power.

It takes a lot of turning over to get it started and smokes. Once it running it ticks over fine just no power unless you disconnect the sensor.

I’ve put a new MAP sensor on and a mass airflow sensor, hasn’t made a difference.

Also noticed the return on the expansion tank is constantly flowing. Is this normal?

Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Good evening I can't help with the engine but the expansion tank is always flowing.
