Freelander won't start

can anyone help me... i have a 1998 hippo i tried to start it two days ago and the motor would not fire up. left it for a day and tried again, but there was nothing going on. engine is turning over fine there is a good spark and fuel is getting up to the motor. called out the aa he removed the plugs, heated them, and replaced them. three times before the motor started, ran for about 7 minutes went to exceleate and then it died again. did the spark plugs again, then motor ran for about 10 minutes and then motor started runnng rough nd then died. have tried to start the car again today it did not want to even think about starting. i id notice that the beeping noise inisde the car from the alarm was sounding halfay hrough the motor turning over.

can anyone help please

Hi. Not an easy diag without being there but it sounds like the plugs are fouling with fuel continually (as the aa guy had to heat them each time to get a start) therefore if that's the situation then you have an overfuelling problem. I just studied the 'Rave' manual for the engine and suspect that maybe the 'MAP' sensor could be the culprit and a good start point. Check that the sensor is sealing correctly to the manifold as any air leaks could cause it to send incorrect information to the ECU which would then overfuel the engine. D..

Hi I had the same sort of problem on a 1999, the cure on mine was a poor connection on the coil,low tension side (thats the two wires on one plug, not the one which go's to the distributor cap) I removed the coil cleaned up the connections on it and the plug refitted it and the fault never happened again. It's also worth checking the contacts in your distributor cap and the rotor arm and cleaning them up, it may well look like you have a good spark with a plug out but when the plugs are in the enging under compession load the spark may well be not quite good enough. let us know how you get on..
