hi! got ripped off at a cost of 160.00 to have an offside regulator changed, now the other side is going the same way - i can get a spares set off ebay, but are they easy to fit - any instructions welcome! also, any hints re removing the door panel?

Yes they're easy to fit but there is a point to watch to avoid instant failure of the cable.

proceed as follows (5 door).......

remove the screw from behind the interior door handle and remove the trim
carefully prise the door pull trim off and remove the screws from behind
05 models onwards, remove the window switch assembly by pulling the whole black trim upwards
remove the plug behind the springy cup holder thing and remove the screw inside
finally remove 4 screws from the lower part of the door trim
carefully prise the door trim from the door and try to avoid breaking any clips

To get the reg out.......

Carefully remove the water shedder, this is easier said than done and really it should be relaced, if you have a new one, just rip it off.

Now, the point to watch, before removal, look at how the cables cross over and the cable nearest the outer side of the door crosses over the inner one and is clipped to the inner door skin, it MUST be refitted this way to keep the cables away from the window otherwise the window will catch the cables when wound down and break them, this is a common mistake so take your time and look before removing.

Next, Wind the window down (if you can) and loosen the 2 bolts that hold the window to the regulator, pull the window up and tape it to stop it dropping. If you cant wind the window down, cut the cables.

Remove all the 10mm bolts that hold the reg in and wiggle the reg out of the door.

Twist the new reg so the cables cross as previously mentioned, make sure they cross the right way, the cable with the pad should be nearest the inner door skin with the one without the pad crossing it on the outside.
Fit the reg in the door and tighten all the bolts, clip the non padded cable to the clip on the inner door skin.
refit the window.
Now, check the operation and make double sure the window doesn't catch on the cables, once your happy, fit the shedder and the door trim.
