Hi all,
Long story short, my TD4 diesel has been parked up at a friends camp site which is surrounded by farm land which apparently has a health rat population.
One (or more) has crept under the bonnet and chewed through what looks like the main wiring loom just as it comes out of the bulk head on the drivers side.
Now the dash board lights up but nothing in the dash pod works. Temp gauge say's it's at maximum from the moment you insert the key, fuel gauge just points in a random direction every time I start the car.
I have no rev counter, no speedo. only thing which works is the indicator lights.
HDC, TC, ABS, oill light, hand brake light and probably some others i've forgotten about are all constantly lit up.
Now the questions....
Because the damage has been done so close to the bulkhead it's a not going to be practical to gain access to the damaged wires from the engine bay.
I think my only fix is going to be to strip out parts of the dash, continuity test the damaged sections of wire to identify them from inside the car and then pull in new sections where required and solder them to the un damaged sections of wire in the engine bay.
Does anyone have any idea where inside the car these wires are likely to terminate?
Should I be looking at the fuseboard?
Does anyone have any advice regarding anything that might be wired in between the dash or fuseboard and the damaged areas just outside the bulkhead? A continuity test will tell me I have the right circuit but won't tell me if anything else is involved. I don't want to start pulling wires and inadvertently miss something important out of the circuit.
How difficult is it to strip out the dash pod? by that I mean the actual pod which holds the speedo etc. Would I need to remove the steering wheel? The steering column is one of the adjustable ones.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
