Hi everyone,my freelander 1.8 2001my has gone terrible on fuel in the last couple of weeks the other day i fueled up and almost full and it only done about 75 miles on half a tank there is something major with this does anyone know where to start ive put mew spark plugs in and air filter could it be the mass sensor on the air?

half a tank? how many litres does a full tank hold? not that it matters cos its sounds like yer got a leak.

no sign of smoke? what about misfires? if it wur going through the engine they should be some sort of effect like either of the previous.
does it lack power?

Hi there, there is no misfire but it was misfiring with the old plugs the problem started when i put the new plugs in it was really good on fuel when the old plugs were in.

Either your fuel guage is buggered (less likely) or you have a leak (more likely). Fuel tank takes iro 60 litres from dry and on a 1.8 should do you about 300 miles on a full tank.

Have a good poke round underneath and in the engine bay for any signs of discarded petrol - especially after being parked up somewhere dry for a while. No smells of petrol in the cabin I take it?

Cheers

Hi ive looked underneath and its bone dry and the engine bay is fine to the only thing is the fuel gauge does play up as if you park some where it does drop a bit is this a common fault on freelanders. At the mean time ive took the rear prop off it does go alot better i think that its been stuck in four wheel drive and at to moment it really seems good on fuel.
