Hi I have already posted about this but now have some more details.

If I've took her on a good run the day after I come out to start her again she struggles. It will start then die then sometimes the engine management light comes on after a few tries and little bit of revving it will stay on and work fine but the smoke that comes out of it is unreal . Had someone come out to look at it and they said it needs a non return valve on fuel line does this sound right??

Any help will be greatly appreciated as I would to fix the problem myself.

What is the car like to start right after you have a good run in it, ? is it only smoking when you first start it from cold, ? there could be a few answers to this question so the more info the better.
Glow plugs maybe, injector, a leak back test would help, what colour is the smoke.

Straight after mate it'll be fine. It's like the day after it struggles. The smoke is dark grey/black. Then it'll like blip at the bottom of the revs. And sometimes cut out. It's always loads worse after a good run or I've been towing.

Sounds like EGR could be sticking have you done any work on the manifold, & EGR cleaning or bypassing it ? the poor starting could be an injector or even the regulator O-rings it would be best if you could get it on diagnostic Hawkeye /T4 really

What Arctic2 said.

There is a non return valve in the fuel line. However as the fuel line is self purging. Fresh fuel should always be available at the high pressure fuel pump.
So I'd say the EGR valve is a good place to start. Then move on to the pressure regulator O rings.

When was the fuel filter last changed? Is the fuel pump running ok?

I've got a egr blanket on the old one I took off was really bunged up
Yeah the pumps are running fine. There's a blanker on now so the egr has gone. I'll try and get someone with a diagnostics machine to have a look. Would it be best if I could do it with the engine management light on.

Sounds like the pesky O ring to me. That's what I'd be doing, if the EGR is eliminated from the equation.
