Hi

Can anybody recommend an independent garage to service my TD4, was quoted £460 by Taggarts for the 72,000 service!

I was quoted £480 by Taggarts in Motherwell for a service and went to Whites in Edinburgh, who are a Land Rover specialist - half the price!

I'll second broonsters recommendation.

5 mins walk from Haymarket station which is only 40mins away from Glasgow on the express train
I usually drop off one day and pick up the next.

Gave them the Disco on the 23rd Dec with a fuel problem and it was sorted the same day. I personally wouldn't go anywhere else.
I do know gemm 4x4 also do a good job in Larbert near Falkirk but haven't used them as I'm happy with White's

Rowan Garage Services in Rowan Street Paisley are very good. They will take the time to order all the correct grade oils & can do the IRD oil, auto g/box oil (or manual g/box) etc. no problems. They are a small independent garage of proper mechanics who are more than capable.

72,000 miles is a BIG service which includes changing the Auto Box fluid

Independants RCV charge £400 at that mileage.

Thanks to everyone for their help and recommendations.

I have booked it in to Rowans only because they are a quick bus ride from work.

I will give you feedback after Friday!

Regards

I think you'll be pleased with them as all the guys there are genuine car enthusiasts, though they all like different types of car. They've worked on many different cars for myself & my dad over the years & although there's sometimes been a small delay due to parts or specific oil needing sourced (my auto box oil for example) their work is to an extremely high standard & they are very approachable & capable.
One thing I would do though is to ask them to replace your crankcase breather valve/filter assembly as this didn't originally appear in Landrovers maintenance schedule & should now be replaced every 12,000 miles. They probably will know about this but it won't do any harm to mention it.

All the best & let us know happy you are afterwards.

Hi Chromiumuk

The guys serviced my car on Friday and it feels better. I only read your advice about the crankcase breather after the service, so will phone them and ask on Tuesday.

I will definitely add my recommendations to yours, a really great garage. (Plus I spied an E-Type sitting under tarps which calls for further investigations!)

Are these guys independant landrover people or do they just have a knowledge of them.
I like independants as they have the software and skill to work on my TD5

Yeah, the E-Type belongs to Alastair the owner of the garage, he's had it for years & is very slowly working on it. He's a classic car enthusiast & usually has one or two on the go. Glad you were pleased with them, I knew you would be.
