I'm looking for some help & advice please.
I have an 03 TD4 (the BMW engine) which has done 74,000 miles. In January of this year I noticed black/brown sludge in the expansion tank - the car was running fine and I had no water in the oil. Having looked at the threads on this site it seemed that a leaking oil cooler is often the cause so I ordered a replacement (genuine LR part) and got it done - I was living in Spain at the time so it was done there. Everything seemed fine - a small amount of residue appeared over the coming months but only what you'd expect from around the system. . . I'd done a few thousand miles, including driving back from Spain, with no problems.
Over the last couple of weeks the problem has started again - I've tried flushing the system with warm water but am getting the sludge continuously . . is it likely to be the oil cooler again (faulty part / bad luck etc) or something else?
I've phoned 2 Landy garages - both immediately said Head Gasket but all the searches I've read say this is highly unlikely on BMW engine TD4 (and still no water in the oil).
Any ideas?
Thanks
