Hi I have a Freelander 02 TD4 auto with no starting problem. The rear tank fuel pump is not working. The voltage to it is only 6.9 volts from as soon as the ign is switched to position 2. Is this correct or should it be 12 volts all the time or 12 volts for the first say 5 seconds as I found on a USA Disco blog. I don't want to replace the pump if the fault is a power supply fault. Any suggestions?

I have now found out that what I thought was the pump in the tank is in fact only the level indicator (Having removed it, cleaned and refitted it). It looks from on top the same as the pump but the electric connector only has 2 wires not 4 as the actual intank pump has. This error occurred as the Haynes manual states that up to 03 has an intank pump and from 03 on the pump is under the wheel arch as mine turned out to be. Having started to remove the wheelarch pump I switched the igition on and the pump started to work and the engine started both when cold and then hot. I can only assume that it was an act of God or that by disturbing the pump it freed off a corroded connection to the pump.:)
