Hi I have a 2006 freelander TD4 and I lose power when I travel over 50 mph. It does not come to complete stop but the power comes and goes. The amber engine management light comes on from time to time. I have taken it to the garage and they have found nothing wrong with it. They checked everything apart from the ECU. I have sent the ECU off to have it checked but was wondering if this could be a possible fault?. My local Landrover arage said it was the wrong fuel but we have tested it and it is the right fuel. I get black smoke from the exhaust and the engine seems to mis-fire as well. But when I disconnect a pipe in the engine the black smoke stops but I still lose power. Please any help or advice. Thanks guys

I'd start by checking the intercooler pipes for holes or splits, and when was your crank case breather filter last changed?

there will be fault code/s logged in the ECU if the engine management light comes on. Have the garage read the codes before messin with it?

my guess is it'll show low fuel pressure or boost control fault....

Worth taking a look at the plug on the end of the fuel rail. I recently had similar problems - garage wanted to change my high pressure pump. After a lot of problems and parts changed found it was this plug causing my power loss. Bought the new part from Land Rover - cars running fine now.

good luck

I had the same problem on a 2002 last week, black smoke and down on power at all speeds, turned out to be a split hose (arrowed red), replaced hose, problem solved.........
