freelander seats

The standard seats in my new to me freelander are crippling me! after 3 days of driving to work I no longer want to get in it. I find them too small, the top of the seat bolsters are in my shoulder blades!

Anyone fitted some decently comfy seats for a relatively tallish person into a freelander 1? I thought i had seen someone had fitted freelander 2 seats onto mark 1 base frames on ebay a few months back?

I am 6'3 and find the seats ok for size, but I would like another notch back on the seat runners.

im 6'4 and thought they were ok size wise etc.. just seems to be the short back on them. Ive got another set of smart seats i could whack in or some rx8 ones as well.

Always found volvo ones to be the comfiest though!

You can't beat Volvo and Jag seats! Lots in scrap yards at low cost and often with heating.

I haven't done it personally but the seats in the FL1 seem very high and there is a lot of air between the seat base and the floor - looks like a good base to fit something else. I have helped someone fit front seats from a X-Type Jaguar Sport into a Defender and they were bloody lovely. Just don't get the seat heating and air bag wires mixed up....

If you are after a seat like you have in your profile picture however you might want to watch the Top Gear conversion of a Mercedes S-Class.

The seats in my V6 ES are lovely and comfortable. I can sit in them all day without a worry. I'm a short ass at 5'9" though!! That said, the Freelander seats are much more comfortable than the VW Tiguan we used to have. After an hour in those, I wanted out.

What ever you change the seat for, don't forget the seat belt has a pyrotechnic tensioner. This would need to be kept.

Ill have to have a look, but ill retain all parts of the seatbelt system, im always loathe to touch things like pretensioners and airbags etc.

I'm 6'6 and iwould also like an extra notch or 2 on the runners. The facelift models do have extra leg room and slightly better seats.

You sure your seats arnt just shagged out?

Comfiest seat I have owned was my old range rover classic. Many a time after a night on the sause I would walk halfway up the drive, find my rangerover and sleep in that

Dont forget the bolsters are adjustable in the ones I have. I had to slide em back to get them out of my shoulders.

picked up a set of facelift seats from this russian chap over the weekend.

You have to remove a bracket thats fitted to the later model seats in order to re'use your existing seatbelt tensioners but 2 seconds with a grinder and they are off.

Much more comfortable!!!

and yes they are out of a 5 door. I will transfer the foams over to my old seats over the next few weeks.

whilst i was at it, i fitted the softtop i had picked up and the roof crate i had kicking about.

Now you just have to condition these gray bumpers! As a former carwash/detail shop owner, I can recommend Meguiar's "Back To Black". Works like a charm, but it needs to be reapplied every third/fourth wash.
