Our 1999 Freelander 5 door has no roof racks or rails fitted, but we have been considering getting some. Yesterday though I had a thought, what happens to the aerial when you have the roof racks loaded up with gear?
I don't know whether some Freelander's have the aerial mounted in a different place, but ours is right in the middle at the front end of the roof. It can fold down fairly flat, but if you fold it too far it constantly taps on the roof as you drive along.

What am I missing here? I'm sure they didn't design them so you have to remove the aerial if you want to put stuff on the roof.

I have rails and racks and yes the aerial gets in the way but only if you fit something that goes flat right across the rack - with things like canoes the aerial is fine.

i made my own roof rack and yes the aerial is still in the way unless you sit the rack further back but mine will not as I made a full one but it will adjust loosen the screw and put it strait up

When I put my roof box on it taps constantly unless you....

Fold it flat....

Fit roof box...

then point it up so it is bent under the roof box, not too much, more "flexed"...

Then re-tighten...

Adjust as needed until vibration goes away...

Simples

Ah Land Rover... how we love your designs.

I wondered about this till I had to put the roof box on and found that the aerial just sat nicely under the front bar, no rattles or vibration and no loss of signal...just lucky maybees...

If you own a Freelander & that's the worst of your worries then I envy you :p

Don't worry, we've had our share of issues, but nothing compared to some of the lists I've seen on the faults poll thread.
We had part of the chassis near the rear of the vehicle disconnect from the body after skidding around in the mud a bit (at least we think that's what caused it) but that would be the worst of our issues.
I'm almost certain the HDC doesn't work as the light doesn't come on when you press the switch, and nothing seems to happen when you go down a steep gradient except your velocity increases! We haven't had it fixed though as I assume it would be expensive being an electronic fault?
The only other thing is that the sunroof doesn't open and close; it was disconnected when we got the vehicle but we didn't mind because it was a manual diesel with relatively low mileage for a good price. (And the sunroof doesn't leak, yay!)
