Hello all,I bought a 2002 1.8 petrol k series last year,it ran well then a few weeks ago when starting it,everything was dead, all the dash lights were lit but no life at all,The RAC man said the fault was with the on board computer and would cost a fortune to fix,a knowledgeable friend came to see it and just kept pressing the trip switch on the milometer and bingo it started,it`s done it again today so natually I did the same thing with the trip switch and what did you know it started easy..Has anyone else experienced this problem?? as I am reluctant to go anywhere far it case I get stuck.Reading through the post`s to find the answer to this I come across VCU can anyone tell me what this mean`s..Thank`s mayanbilly

I had the same problem on mine and it was the ignition switch, you only need to change the switch on the bottom. the switch is around a tenner (not from a dealer) and it takes about 15 minutes to do. From what I remember you just take off the steering wheel cover and unscrew it.

Hi Degs,Thanks for that, did yours just stay dead when you switched the ignition on,on mine all the relivent lights lit up but when I then turned the key to start it was just stone dead.a friend then told me to fiddle with the trip switch which I did and it started..this has happened 3 times now and each occasion when I fiddled with the tripn switch it started???.but I will take your advice ..thanks.

It happened to me twice, all the dash lights on but nothing. I thought it was the battery then the anti theft device but turning the key and putting it in and out for 20 minutes it started. As I had just bought it , it went back to the garage only to be told it was alright, till the next time. Carry a strip of wire around and when it happens again short out from the + battery terminal to either starter solenoid terminals on the starter motor. You need the brown & red colour cable but it won't matter if you splash the red one first by mistake. If the starter solenoid engages it's likely the ign switch or fuse F1(30amp) in the engine compartment. I bought my switch from Overlander on 0151 476 7002.
It's a horrible feeling not knowing if it will start.
best of luck
Degs

Hi degs Thanks for that,I will do that.I live in the 0151 area..can you tell me where you bought the ignition switch from..Billy

I had one in the other day doing the same thing, it was a dirty/corroded connector to the starter solenoid, I changed the terminal and it was fine.
