Freelader 1.8i, just passed it's MOT, but garage inicated an oil leak, car is booked in for next tues, but i,m suposed to be away for weekend (500 mile round trip).

Evidence of oil leak is on drivers side of engine, with staining on brake pipes and into wheel arch. Oil was very low ( but no oil warning light had come on). Can't see any obvious source, Any suggestions where I should start looking?

drivers side of engine has the oil pump and filter there so could be from that area, without taking the undertray off and having a look I can't say for sure.

oil warning light is a for oil pressure, not level so wont come on till oil level is too low to maintain good pressure, usually it'll flicker on when cornering if its that low. You should never wait for the light to come on before checking the level, it'll be too late by then as engine damage will have be done.

IF YOUR ENGINE IS L-SERIES CHECK AROUND OIL FILTER AREA, THERE IS A LARGE TORX HEADED BLANKING PLUG.
TRY TIGHTENING THIS WITH CORRECT TORX BIT ( I think it's T-70 ) BUT YOU MAY NEED TO TAKE O/S DRIVE SHAFT OUT TO GET AT IT PROPERLY WHICH REQUIRES DRAINING SOME IRD FLUID OUT WITH CAR JACKED UP R/H SIDE.
WARNING!!! DO NOT TAKE OUT PLUG UNLESS YOU HAVE TO, AS WITHOUT DRIVE SHAFT OUT YOU RISK CROSS THREADING PLUG LIKE I DID, I WAS LUCKY TO GET IT BACK OK AFTER REMOVING D/SHAFT ETC.
