Barely a month ago, I fitted a brand new Ronbox 2a and the peirburg maf to my 2006 freelander TD4.

It made a huge difference.

Now, it seems to have lost that difference!

Acceleration is now sluggish. Its as if I have to work the engine hard to get up to a decent speed.

The led's on my 3 way switch are working, but is there any way to test if the Ronbox is still actually working or not?

The car runs as if it is driving into a very strong head wind all the time.

I have experimented with various settings on the Ronbox and it seems that number 7 was the best for me, but no longer.

I did the egr mod and BMW oil separator mod last year.
It has a new air filter and the car has done less than 45k.

Have there been any instances of the ronbox failing?
Could the new maf supplied have failed?

Suggestions on things I should check would be very welcome.

Two things seem obvious............
1.
Remove the Pierburg MAF and all Ronbox connectors in the engine bay. Refit the original MAF and all original connectors which will return the car to it's pre ronbox state. Does the problem go away ??

2.
Give Tuning Diesels a call or drop them a mail outlining the problems after you have done the above.

Asda diesel.

Always have done and 9 times out of 10, I will add some millers (I think it is called, maybe wrong name). It was recommended on here.

It has always run well since fitting Ron box about a month ago until past week.

I think asda and Sainsbury's are one of the worst fuel out you do not get the mile per gallon try esso but have you check the turbo hoses are not cracked or loose

I filled up with esso on way to work this morning so will see if that makes a difference.
I assume I check the turbo hoses from underneath the car?

from above, intercooler hoses, big fat hose, ones just a short elbow onto the egr (rhs front of engine) then there is a long one passes across the top of front of the engine, prone to wear through where the hose rubs on the cover screw

good luck

By coincidence, when I parked up at work I squeezed those two hoses whilst the engine was still running and they could be very easily squeezed quite flat. I thought they would be solid.
Is this right?
I have also noticed that a hose coming out of the bulkhead left side of engine looking from the front is almost flat instead of round.
I think this hose may be part of the air con, but not sure.

if it were at idle revs .. then there be no added pressure in the turbo/intercooler hoses ..
even at higher revs .. when in neutral .. there not be much extra pressure ..
although i guess it could be felt on the hoses ..

the power steering hoses can look flat ..
nowt to worry about from what i've read on here

did this lack of 'oooomph' happen all of a sudden .. or gradually ??

as far as the synergy box / cab switch is concerned ..
the cab switch plug has been known to come ( vibrate ) loose ..
might be worth checking to see if it's seated properly
or.. disconnect the cab switch 'n see if anything changes ..

i don't have the cab switch installed .. so can't inform on potential symptoms if it's loose ..
be just speculating ..
although there's been one prev. post regarding a plug that's come loose ..

obviously disconnecting the synergy altogether ..
and return the connections to 'standard' .. will show If it's the synergy box at fault .. or not ..

Unless you can see something staring you in the face...for the 15 minutes it will take to swap everything back to standard and then trying the engine...at least if there is no change then it's safe to assume that the Synergy is o.k. Then you can start delving deeper.
As with all diagnostics, start at the possible cause, eliminate it and move on step by step through all the possibilities.
Have you discussed your problem with Ron at Tuning Diesels yet ??????

No, not spoken to Ron.
Wanted to see if anyone had any ideas first.
I will check switch connection etc this weekend, weather allowing.

get some one to rev the engine a bit while you look at the turbo hoses if in doubt renew preferably with the silicone ones from DPH and make sure the clips are tight if renewing go for the better t bar clips or do a search on here

Just got home from work and the car will do 70 but it is hard work getting it there.

I squeezed the hoses again and I think I heard a hiss as if air was escaping when I squeezed. I cannot be 100% sure as I am hard of hearing and have no sound direction capability.

Can someone explain what 'turbo whistle' sounds like?

I am hearing a whirring, whistling sound from about 30 / 35 mph, but I am suspecting it is my wind deflectors I fitted (Heko in window recess fitting).

I fitted the Ronbox and the wind deflectors within a day of each other.

My turbo hoses are slightly oily and feel very soft, so I think I will replace them.

I shall probably get the bog standard ones and replace with superior ones at a later date.
Numerous things have been breaking down around the house recently so I am financially stretched.

How much are bog standard ones likely to cost?

I was asked earlier in this thread if it begun gradually or suddenly.

I was wrong in saying gradually.

It started suddenly, where the problem would be apparent from the beginning of a journey, but the next journey the power could be back or perhaps a couple of journeys lacking power and then a couple with bags of power.

It seemed to start whilst I was experimenting with the settings on the Ronbox, but that could just be a coincidence.

Weather allowing I will check what I can this weekend.

Having recovered from illness, I can now replace these hoses.

I assume except for eBay and amazon, these hoses are main dealer only?

Did I miss something, or are you getting lots of black smoke when you have no power?

I fitted the Ronbox recently and it highlighted the turbo hose problem. It must have been already leaking, and it split big time.

Land Rover seem to keep the 90 degree hose that goes into the EGR in stock and £15 and 5 mins later the car is now better than ever.
