Hello all, i am new to the site and i am addicted.

I have a problem with the heated rear window on my 02 plate Freelander TD4. The trouble is it just does not seem to work. I have checked the fuses and they appear fine. The switch lights up but nothing seems to happen.

Can anyone help me????

Hi,

Maybe a loose wire or a fuse, they might look ok but in fact they aren't, if you know which one serves the heated rear window try to replace the fuse to see if any result.

After i made the above post i decided to have a good look at the bloody thing. The fuse and relay are both fine and i used a Electrical testing kit to test the wire and it was fine. I then ran the testing screwdriver over the elements and bingo it made my screw driver light up.

Obviously this proves that power is there however it still does not clear.

God knows what it is, maybe the elements have just lost there effectiveness and i guess it is a new screen needed?

right then, the cause of this is because someone has scraped the window with a sharp object, normally caused by a ring. as you have a testing probe(your screwdriver)you need to keep one end on the connecter end where it attatches to the window and slowly move the other end around the element until you find the break. you can buy tape to repair it then from halfrauds or that sort of place ;)

Dave H . . . Yes i agree with the Yellow man ,he,s spot on but also you could have a poor earth return, making the the total resistance so big as to fail , it is far better to measure with an ohm meter than using the screw driver method, but if that gets you to a result , fair play. . . The Ming
