Well, it's gone....

Entered the world of 4x4 via a 1.8 1998 Freelander 50th Anniversary 5dr almost exactly a year ago.

The bug stayed, and actually got worse , and so this weekend I picked up a 2000 TD5 Disco II Adventurer.

I've started browsing the Disco forums now too , but still enjoy looking through here - And wanted to make one last little post about my Freelander.

I know there's a lot of problems discussed on here, but it was a great car from the start.. 90000 miles in it still ran well, started first time, drove great through mud and snow, had loads of room, no electrical faults, no funny noises, no head gaskets blowing up, No IRD faults. I spent the whole year stressing about the Head Gasket, but in reality it only ever used a very little bit of coolant which I kept topped up. I drove to Scotland in it with 4 people and a load of camping gear and it never missed a beat. Sad thing is I'm superstitious and would never say so until it had gone, in case I 'jinxed' it!

1.8 was a little underpowered but buzzed round fine once up to speed.

SO, goodbye Freelander... Would definately have another or recommend to a friend!

They are not all bad, had a 1.8 3 door for 2 and a half years with no problems but like you, I changed to a Disco TD5, which I have also had for 2 and a half years.
I do prefer the Disco though, far more character and more economical as well.

glad to hear it's more economical, especially as i spent £87 filling it with diesel when i picked it up!!!
