I have just had my third pump fitted and was told that I should only hear the pump when it is priming and then it should stop. My pump can be heared pumping all of the time have I still got a problem to sort out and if so what or is it ok.

The pump should not be heard after initial priming.
Probable cause could be a leaking connection between the tank and the pump if its a post 2003 vehicle (air is sucked in and fuel doesn't escape) or a blocked pipe restricting fuel flow.

Suggest you dismantle and clean all pipes up to pump, including sedimenter then make doubly sure all connections are tight on re-assembly.

Just don't make the mistake I did where I didn't connect the pipes back together properly and the pipe from the pump to the filter came off whilst driving, engine management light came on and fuel pouring out the back.

Could a blocked filter/pipes be causing these problems or would excessive leaking of the injectors cause this extra priming?

This is what I can't get over. I did a leak test on mine the other day (thanks to BillyG by the way for sending a testing kit) and all my injectors are leaking according to it. I have never had a problem starting cold or warm but I do still have white smoke coming from the exhaust.

I have tested the fuel pump and nothing wrong there, changed fuel filter, crankcase breather, bought a Synergy 2 and MAF and so on and so on but what I understand if my injectors a leaking then I should hear the pump continue running (due to lack of pressure) and have problems starting. The tests clearly show injectors are leaking but is this OK?

What is an acceptable amount of leakage?

Problem solved pump takes about 60-90 seconds to stop priming. Also never fit cheap as chips engine chip from ebay you get more power because they use the primer pump to pump fuel faster and pump will burn out after about 7 months expensive way to learn

You too, My management light didn't come on, but the car drove fine for about a mile, then cut out going through the traffic lights (2 sharp turns) trailing diesel along the road. Managed to coast through the lights with heavy steering & brakes & get the car safely to the side before getting my poor old dad to tow me to a layby to sort it. Easily done especially if your not sure how hard to press them home. Mine appeared to click into position but was definitely not properly home as I saw when I redid the job.

Yes I couldn't believe it. I luckily was only about one mile from home. Walked home and rung my Brother in law who hapiy towed me to a near car park so I could start all again. In total changing the fuel filter took 4 hours including the fun.
