Freelander Front Wiper Problem

Evening,

Hoping someone can give me some advice on my wiper problem that has occured on my 2002 freelander.

Front wipers now no longer work when knob is turned. They don't work on any of the speeds. Occasionally you get one click noise when i turn the wipers on but the wipers still sit still at won't move. The only way i can get the wipers to work is by pushing the lever down as you would when you want to just clean the windows quick. Wipers also still work when sprayers are put on.

This has come at a damn annoying time as i have the mot in a couple of weeks.

Your help will be much appreciated.

The 2 most likely causes of this are firstly a dodgy switch, secondly a dodgy control circuit inside the wiper motor. I would bet it's the second one. If you have a local breakers yard, pop down an pick up a wiper motor, then wen you get home just connect it up electrically and see if all is well.

Hang on you said yourself the wipers work on the flickwipe and with washers so hows that a fecked motor?

have you checked the fuses?

think it's 3 and 8.

could also be switch

Thats right they do work on the flick switch and and with washers. Sorry but i don't know hence why asking on here for advice.

I haven't checked the fuses but will do that in the morning. Would the wipers work the way they are with the flick switch etc if fuses knackered?

When you say switch what do you mean?

makes sense to at least start with the basics, ie. blown fuses......

seem to remember there is more than one fuse for wipers so could explain why the motor works when using flickwipe etc.
 
mine did the same thing theres only one fues for the motor which is 3/15amp it will be the motor for sure

Checked fuse and fuse seems ok. Swapped it with a spare just to make sure and the problem is still occuring.

Damn wipers!

Glad to know i am not the only one then!

I checked fuse 3 and it looks alright to me.

Did you replace the motor yourself? not to tricky is it for a amatuer? i can't be doing with forking out for a garage to do it if it is a simple job.

with ignition on and wipers switched to slow speed, check for 12v between the blue/light green wire and the black wire at the wiper motor connector.

live in east sussex. on the south coast.

I might try the local breakers this week and see if they have any in stock.

30 mins sounds ideal to me if ok for an amatuer to do.
 
If you read a earlier post, if you take the plug off the wiper motor and with a muti meter conected to the two wires that chaser mentioned, if there is no power then it could be the switch on the stalk and not the wiper motor, if power there then yes its the motor that has failed.

I'll have a hunt on the internet for fitting instructions.
Can't beat a bit of ebay. Appear to be loads of rear ones on there!
 
ah sorry thought he had done that yes it is pos it is the the stalk but 9 times out of 10 its the motor but yes check that first just to be sure

Hi,

I did see that earlier post but wondered what he meant by it. Is replacing the switch easy?
