Hi I have been advised (from my LandRover specialist Garage) i need a new Turbo for my Freelander 2005 HSE model. There is a whistling noise and all relevant hoses have been checked and only one replaced which has not rectified the noise. Does anyone know of a good place to buy new Turbos from or get my one fixed or a recon 2nd hand turbo? Car has only done 45k miles (is this a common fault?) Any help appreciated as this is not cheap!!

Car drives fine there is a whistling noise from under the bonnet that gets louder as you accelerate.

Is the car new to you? Have to ask cos all turbos whistle to a degree......

yes a Freelander is new to me (so not sure on the whistling noise on this car) however I also have a P38 2001 (BMW Diesel Turbo) and no noise from this car. The garage are telling me i need a new Turbo, but not sure if i should just carry on driving the car, or get a replacement/recon/new turbo as they recommend?

Well they are quite audible on a Td4 in my opinion especially under gentle acceleration with the window down. That said there could still be a faint air leak from an intercooler hose. Anything large will cause black smoke under acceleration but less so for a small leak. The common hose failures are the long one across the front which rubs through on a screw head underneath and the smaller right angled hose to the EGR valve at the battery end.

Whatever happens, given the cost, get a second opinion.

Or videoclip it and post on youtube ? (As I did with my starving duck...:D:D:D:D in
